Matrix is a series of light shades that examine the relationship between material thickness, tool path design, and porcelain light transmission. Variable light transmission is achieved by grading material thickness and tool path geometries that expand and contract to change the sectional distribution of material. When the tool path expands, additional material is deposited along the X-Y axis, resulting in diminished brightness. The final Matrix consists of sixteen pendants, each unique in its shape and the way light is mediated through its surface. The unique qualities of each shade is experienced when the Matrix is viewed holistically.
