TOAD LIGHT

The Toad Light series borrows formal elements from traditional ceramic table lamps. The Toad Light has two ceramic components – terracotta housing and a porcelain shade. A steel frame hidden inside the housing supports the shade and light source. The Toad Light explores the relationship between plastic deformation and light scattering via large concave apertures. Plastic deformation and aperture size gradually increase towards the bottom of the porcelain shade, illuminating the terracotta housing. The texture applied to the housing is ornamental- apertures are sealed to create a continuous surface. To prevent glare, apertures are directed downwards by flipping the shade 180 degrees about its printed orientation.
